STUDIO SCHOLTEN & BAIJINGS

Designs for Gelderland since 2005

Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings formed a designer duo called Studio Scholten & Baijings between 2000 and 2019. The duo occupies a unique position within Dutch product design. Their work is minimalist, but at the same time rich in detail and expressive through craftsmanship and a measured colour palette.

Scholten studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven, while Baijings is self-taught. After completing several projects in which they explored the boundaries between autonomous and applied work, their new work put more emphasis on design within interiors.

Scholten and Baijings used grids, lighting effects and graphic surface divisions in their work. The clear focus on craft and tradition ensures a good balance between design and functionality. Scholten & Baijings' work is included in the permanent collections of Centraal Museum Utrecht, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Nederlands Textiel Museum Tilburg.

The duo won several Dutch Design Awards and also received ELLE's Decoration International Design Award for Young Designer Talent. After a 19-year collaboration, Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings have been working under their names since 2019.

‘A distinctive, almost un-Dutch design style.’

STUDIO SCHOLTEN & BAIJINGS X GELDERLAND

Have designed for Gelderland since 2005

In 2007, Studio Scholten & Baijings designed the 6905 series: a series of sofas where comfort is key. The series was later expanded with the 6950: the same design, but with a deeper seat, making it more comfortable for taller people. In addition to this series, the duo designed the 7400 armchair in 2009. ‘An armchair with very clear, clean lines; modest in size and airy to look at.’
